We went to Pismo Beach for the weekend, and stayed at a ocean front, dog-friendly hotel. We anticipated the weekend to be either awful or awesome, as we had never traveled with Blitz before. Normally, we leave him with Ben's mom where he gets to sleep on the bed and go for nice, long walks every day. I guess when we go on vacation, he generally gets one of his own.
He rode in the back seating area of Ben's truck, but we had put the seats up and put his dog bed back there with some toys / chews. He basically slept the whole time. He traveled really well! Upon arrival, he was quite nervous of his new surroundings. He seemed nervous in the room, walking around sniffing everything. We got his food / water set up, and took him for potty on the beach. One odd thing about Blitz is that he never pottys on walks. I find it unusual for a male dog to not mark, but he NEVER does. It took almost an hour for him to do his business. He clearly likes his privacy!
That night we let him sleep on our bed, because we wanted to do everything in our power to ensure he'd relax and sleep through the night. Early the next morning (6AM), someone was walking their dog on the beach. It began barking, and then so did Blitz. Poor Ben had to take him outside so as to not upset our neighbors. This was (luckily) the only "bad" thing Blitz did all weekend.
He had his first ocean experience Saturday morning. HE LOVED IT! He ran, jumped, dug at the water and bit at the water. We went for about a 2 hour walk. That's mainly what we did all weekend: walked Blitz. When we were in the room, he'd go out on the balcony, squeeze his head through the bars and just watch the people and dogs walking down the beach. We had most of our meals "to go" because we were afraid to leave him in the car while we dined in at a restaurant.
Sunday when we were leaving, we took him to a dog park in Arroyo Grande. Erin and her husband met us there. We sat and watched Blitz run around. Finally someone brought their little French Bulldog in to play. They ran around forever tiring each other out! We went through Morro Bay and did a little shopping. Blitz was already sleeping in the car, so we felt safer leaving him. We checked on him once, and to our surprise, he was just sleeping back there. Now I wish we would have gone to Cracked Crab for dinner after all!

| He is not allowed to do this at home, so since our room also had a couch bed, we spoiled him. |

That last photo is classic!!!
ReplyDeleteHe was so spoiled! Unfortunately once we got home, he was in the mindset that it was okay at home. We had to put the fix on that real quick!
