New Car!

So many huge, positive, wonderful things are happening to me right now. I'm going to update this thing one by one, so in the future, I can look back and recall how amazing 2012 was to me.

Eight years ago I bought a Tahoe. I loved that thing. It was what I had always wanted - comfortable, safe, sexy, and I could go anywhere in it! I put 120k miles on it in those eight years. It saw Vegas, San Diego, Redding, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Utah, Arizona, and so many other amazing places. I slept in it while camping, I drove through the snow, and I drove on the beach. I truly feel like it's one of the greatest vehicles built. Unfortunately, my 120k miles were added on top of the 60+ that were on it when I bought it. Now, I never had any big issues with it. It was still on the original engine and transmission. My only complaint about it on the day that I sold it was the paint. The paint started peeling off the hood, the top, and then spread like wildfire to the sides. It looked like crap, to be frank. I no longer felt pride driving it. I had three good years of driving a paid off vehicle.

With Ben working in the Bay Area and me in Fresno, it as time to have a vehicle that I could trust to drive there so he wouldn't always have to come here. The Tahoe needed new tires (went 100k on the ones I put on it, and they're still going strong!), and I was afraid something big would break. At first, I thought of putting some money into the Tahoe, but it just didn't seem the logical choice.

Finally I gave in. I decided I'd take it to Carmax, take what they'd give me for it and leave with a car. Whatever I could afford. I never had any interest in buying a car, but I need something reliable and something I could afford. I test drove a Honda Accord at first. It was okay. It was a four cylinder and pretty sluggish. I started to wonder how much dealerships charged for the same car. So I ventured out and looked. I ended up test driving a V6 and I fell in love! It was super quick compared to the 4. I loved the power. I haggled for hours over a sedan V6. Finally I walked away. My dad always said if you didn't walk away once, you didn't get a good deal.

The next day I went back with Ben and guess what? It was GONE! I was so sad. Turns out the V6s are hard to come by, especially in black. We eventually came across a V6 coupe. Talk about sexy! I loved the look versus the sedan. After hours of debating, haggling, and just being SO OVER car buying, I bought one.

It's the very top of the line. I can't imagine how much a Tahoe would cost with the same features. Let's just say it would have been WAY out of my price range. The good news is that Honda's hold their value. And one of these days when I start making the big bucks, I'll sell this fun little car and get myself into a Denali. Someday, friends...and that day may be sooner than later. Stay tuned...
